SFPD Make an Arrest in Golden Gate Park Homicide Investigation
On Friday, April 27, 2012 at 7:22PM, officers from the Park District Police Station responded to the Sharon Meadows area of Golden Gate Park regarding a well being check. Upon arrival, officers located the victim, Robert Musial, 55 of San Francisco on a bench behind the Sharon Art Studio. Mr. Musial appeared to be experiencing a medical emergency and officers requested immediate medical assistance from paramedics. Prior to the arrival of the ambulance, Musial lost consciousness and officers began CPR. Paramedics assumed care of Musial but later pronounced him deceased at the scene. Officers received reports that Musial was involved in an altercation prior to police arrival and an investigation was initiated.
In a preliminary autopsy report, the San Francisco Medical Examiner’s Office revealed that Musial had sustained blunt force injuries and ruled his death a homicide. With the assistance of the community, the subsequent investigation by the San Francisco Police Homicide Detail led to the identification of a suspect. On April 29, 2012 Investigators arrested Marcus Herrera, 23, of Santa Ana, California at the Hall of Justice. Herrera was booked for assault with a deadly weapon, robbery and homicide.
Investigators believe there were other people at the scene in Sharon Meadows and are asking anyone with information to come forward.
