SFPD Command Staff & Members Volunteer to Serve Meals to Senior Citizens on Thanksgiving Day
During the holiday season, members of the San Francisco Police Department often take the opportunity to give back to the community. On Thanksgiving Day, SFPD members will be volunteering their time to package and serve meals at various venues to senior citizens and those less privileged throughout San Francisco. San Francisco Police Chief Gregory Suhr will be assisting in serving meals to the seniors at the Lady Shaw Senior Center on 1483 Mason Street from 9:30am-1pm.
For more information on this event please see below:
Date: Thursday, November 24, 2011
Time: 8:30 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.
Place: Self-Help for the Elderly-Lady Shaw Senior Center
1483 Mason Street, San Francisco, CA
Self Help for the Elderly will be serving over 3000 turkey lunches on that day at 3 different meal sites: Lady Shaw Senior Center at 1483 Mason Street, San Francisco; Geen Mun Senior Center at 777 Stockton Street, San Francisco & Woolf House at 801 Howard Street, San Francisco. Volunteers from corporations like Deloitte & Touche, PG&E, Wells Fargo Bank will be there to help us carve, serve & clean up. Heritage, who provides the daily meals for our senior meal sites, will donate & be cooking non-stop overnight all the turkeys that are served on that day. In the morning, at around 8 a.m., our drivers will pick up the turkeys from Heritage and deliver them to Lady Shaw Senior Center. Volunteers from SFPD, Sheriff Dept., Firefighters & Paramedics will be there to help us transport turkeys from our vans into the meal site. Our Carving Volunteers will then roll up their sleeves and start carving. Volunteers from PG&E & SF Firefighters will then packaged the meat with rice, vegetables, sweet potatoes..etc. for the SFPD, Sheriff Dept. & Firefighters to deliver to our homebound seniors. There will be about 900 meals to be delivered. And, the rest will be divided and shipped to the other 2 meal sites.
We are extremely grateful for the work of our volunteers. They not only help us with the event but also bring warmth to the seniors in our community on this festive day when their families are too busy to spend this day with them. Please come and join us if you can. I am sure you will be return for many, many years, just like most of our volunteers. And, that is why, we don’t have flyers for this event as they all know to call and reconfirm with us at the beginning of November. Please feel free to contact me if you require further information.
Thank you again and happy thanksgiving.
