"Avoid the 8" Sobriety Checkpoint Set for Friday, April 22 on 19th Avenue
Nineteenth Ave. at Winston Dr. near the Stonestown Galleria is the location for a sobriety checkpoint scheduled for Friday, April 22. It begins at 8:30 p.m. and continues until early Saturday morning.
The multi-jurisdictional enforcement event is held by Avoid the 8, the San Francisco’s continuing crackdown on impaired drivers. The California Office of Traffic Safety funds it through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
“People ask us about our name, which takes into account the eight law enforcement agencies in the county, and they also inquire about how to avoid being arrested,” commented Capt. Al Casciato of the SFPD Traffic Company, who founded Avoid the 8.
“Here’s how: be sober every time you get behind the wheel. Then you can avoid going to jail, avoid seeing your car towed away, avoid spending thousands of dollars in fines and avoid living with the crushing guilt of having killed or injured somebody.”
The checkpoint is funded through a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.??
