Police responded to a shooting incident that occurred this morning on 16th Street near Folsom
Street.

Two victims were confronted this morning at approximately 9:40 am by three suspects. The
victims and suspects got into an altercation after getting off the bus. As the victims and
suspects were arguing, one of the suspects pulled out a gun and fired at one of the victims. The
victim suffered non-life threatening injuries and the other victim was unharmed.

Witnesses who saw the incident called the police and gave a description of the suspects.
Officers immediately responded and canvassed the area for the suspects and additional
witnesses. A short time after the incident occurred, officers detained the three suspects. The
suspects were identified by witnesses who were in the area at the time of the shooting. The
suspects were three African American males, two of them 16 years old, one a Pittsburg resident
and the other from San Francisco. The third suspect was a 17-year- old from Hayward. After
preliminary investigation, police identified the Hayward resident as the shooter. The suspect is
in custody and was charged with attempted murder, carrying a concealed weapon, and carrying
a loaded firearm.

These arrests were the direct result of quick action by officers in the field and through the help
of courageous witnesses who came forward.
