San Francisco Police - Operation Dream Toy Dream
For the past fifteen years, the members of Operation Dream have conducted a Christmas Toy Drive for the children of San Francisco. Included as recipients in this toy drive are the children of Public Housing, HUD complexes, and low-income neighborhoods, as well as children in hospitals and any families in need. This toy drive consists of several public events to collect toys and raise funds to purchase toys.
The signature event this season will be the SF 49er Football game on Monday December 12, 2010. Every year the Forty-Niner fans show their support by bringing thousands of toys and donating money to Operation Dream. SFPD Officers show up in dress uniform and greet the fans, while they donate to civilian volunteers.
The drive finishes with Christmas parties at each of the public housing developments for children, as well as deliveries made to needy families throughout the City by officers from various district stations, and the DREAM volunteers.
Last year, members collected and distributed thousands of toys to children of San Francisco. Many community-based organizations such as the Glide Memorial, Dr. Charles Drew Child Development Center, the Black Adoption Placement Service, the Ashanti Aids Project, hospitals, and many churches were beneficiaries. Officers also collect cash and these funds aid in the purchase of toys to help make all of this possible.
The toys given by officers during our campaign are the only Christmas gifts that many of these children will receive.
