SAN FRANCISCO POLICE ARREST SUSPECT OF
AGGRAVATED ASSAULT ON A POLICE OFFICER
The San Francisco Police Department arrested a suspect in the aggravated assault of a police officer that occurred on Friday, November 12, 2010 at Buchanan and Fell Streets. Officers had stopped a tan SUV for a narcotics investigation. An officer was standing at the driver’s door of the SUV when he saw the suspect reach for a large quantity of suspected narcotics in the center console of the vehicle. When the officer reached into the SUV to control the suspect’s hands, the suspect shifted the vehicle into “drive.” The suspect dragged the officer several feet before the officer dislodged himself from the vehicle. Back up officers on the scene fired one bullet, striking the suspect vehicle.
On November 15, 2010 at 3:00pm, the San Francisco Police arrested Elmer Stewart, age 62 of Oakland, California. Stewart was charged with Aggravated Assault on a Peace Officer, Evading a Peace Officer Causing Injury, both felonies, and Resisting Arrest a misdemeanor. Stewart is on Federal Probation for a drug related offense.
