SAN FRANCISCO POLICE MAKE ARREST IN MUNI
HATE CRIME CASE
On 08/20/10 the San Francisco Police Department Hate Crime Unit arrested a key suspect in a hate motivated attack on a MUNI LRV.
On 08/14/10 at approximately 12:40pm the victim was on the J-Church line LRV. On the 100 block of Church St, the male victim attempted to exit the back of the LRV when a group of youths boarded at the same time. The victim’s satchel became hooked on to one of the youths and the victim said, “Excuse me” to the male suspect. The male suspect made an anti-gay slur towards the victim and punched the victim on the face and head.
Surveillance footage was seized from the LRV and it clearly showed the face of the suspect before and after the attack. The victim viewed the evidence and identified the suspect as the one who attacked him. Officers from the MUNI Task Force showed the video and still photos to numerous law enforcement partners. The juvenile counselors from the Juvenile Justice Center worked with S.F.P.D investigators to bring the suspect into custody.
The Hate Crimes Unit was also able to recover stolen property that the victim was missing. The suspect is 15 years old.
