San Francisco Police Arrest Suspects in April 17 MUNI Assault and Vandalism Incident

San Francisco police arrested five juvenile suspects in a Muni assault incident that occurred on April 17, aboard the Muni 9 San Bruno Line. Taken into custody were five juvenile suspects that reside within San Francisco and South San Francisco.

In this incident, the victim, a MUNI operator was alerted by a passenger that several juveniles were vandalizing the interior of the bus. The operator confronted the juveniles and ordered them off the bus. At which time, the operator was surrounded and viscously attacked. The operator was repeatedly punched to the face and was physically dragged from the bus and thrown to the ground. Once on the ground, the operator was continually punched and kicked by the suspects. Two women bus passengers came to the operator’s aide. The operator suffered visible injuries which required ambulance transport and medical attention, which he has subsequently recovered from.

This incident was captured on MUNI surveillance cameras.

Inspectors from the Ingleside Police Station and the SFPD MUNI Task Force were able to learn the association of the suspects to the graffiti tag, “COG”. Inspectors were able to identify the five suspects from the surveillance footage provided by MUNI and the SFPD graffiti database. MUNI Task Force officers with the assistance of district station assigned inspectors, juvenile probation and the South San Francisco Police Department were able to take into custody four of the juvenile suspects on April 23rd and the fifth outstanding juvenile suspect on April 25th without incident. The five suspects were booked for the following charges: felony assault, false imprisonment, conspiracy, vandalism and probation violations. Three of the five suspects remain in custody.
