Subject: San Francisco Police Officer Involved Shooting
On Saturday, January 23, 2010 Ingleside District officers responded to the unit block of Maynard, to conduct a well-being check on a person that was allegedly taking medications and drinking alcohol. The Dispatcher that took the call was told that this person was not known to carry weapons.
At 5:25 pm, the officers arrived at the scene and approached the home. They were confronted by the white male, 65 year old suspect, who came at the two officers with a large machete. Witnesses heard the officers give verbal commands and warnings to the suspect. The suspect failed to comply with the officers orders and fearing for their lives, one officer fired three shots, striking the suspect. They requested an ambulance and began CPR. However, the suspect died at the scene.
A crime scene was established and the area was canvassed for witnesses. Witnesses were identified and taken to the Ingleside Station for interviews and statements.
Chief Gascon will be holding a press conference on Monday, January 25, 2010 at 12:00 pm at the Hall of Justice, Room 551.
A community meeting will be scheduled for later in the week.
