Subject: San Francisco Police Arrest Suspect In November 30 Muni Stabbing

San Francisco police have arrested the suspect in an unprovoked stabbing that occurred on the Municipal Railway “J” line yesterday morning. Taken into custody at 8:00 A.M. today was Bobby Brown, no local address.

Officers on patrol from Taraval Station were instructed to focus their attention on Muni routes. Officers Feliks Gasanyan and Maria Donati observed a male who matched the description of the suspect on the street at 31st Avenue and Judah Street. The officers took the suspect into custody and transported the individual to Taraval Station, where investigations teams from Mission and Taraval stations took over the investigation.

Mayor Gavin Newsom said, “I would like to recognize the San Francisco Police Department for their quick work in apprehending the suspect and the San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency for their collaboration with the Police Department in the investigation. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the victim and we wish her a speedy recovery.”

SFMTA Director Nathaniel Ford joined in praising the SFPD. “We are thankful a suspect is in custody and that the video from our light rail vehicle was helpful to the San Francisco Police Department’s investigation of this senseless attack. We will continue to work closely with our police partners to make sure the Muni system is safe and secure for our customers.”

It should be noted that the suspect Brown was one of approximately a dozen suspects who were initially detained in the stabbing of an 11 year old boy on September 1st, 2009. The victim in that case was unable to identify the suspect in the case. Lacking identification and physical evidence, Brown was booked on an outstanding warrant for indecent exposure. Brown remains a suspect in that case which remains active and open at this time.
