PUBLIC AFFAIRS OFFICE PRESS RELEASE

October 13, 2009
09-106

Subject: SFPD Mounted Patrol Candidate Graduation October 14

The San Francisco Police Department Mounted Patrol Unit will conduct a graduation ceremony for three Mounted Unit candidates on Wednesday, October 14, at the Fred C. Egan Memorial Police Stables, located at 36th Avenue off Fulton Street, across from Spreckles Lake, at 12:00 noon.

The graduates are Sergeant Tom Newland, Officer Terry Gan, and Officer Wayne Sato.

Founded in 1874, the San Francisco Police Department’s Mounted Unit is the second oldest continuous mounted patrol in North America, after New York. Like sourdough bread, cable cars, and the Golden Gate Bridge, the mounted unit is an iconic part of the city’s rich history, providing positive public relations and a highly visible police presence in its enforcement roles.
