Subject:

SFPD Meets Charter Mandated Minimu Staffing Level / Police Academy Graduation January 30

In 1994 the citizens of San Francisco passed Proposition D, the minimum staffing measure for the City and County of San Francisco. The voter mandated minimum is 1,971 full-duty officers. With the graduation of these 43 recruit officers, San Francisco has reached and exceeded that number.

In spite of the economic challenges facing the city over the last several years, the department has prioritized full staffing as one of its major goals, and with the support of the Mayor and the Board, this has been met.

The San Francisco Police Department will be holding a graduation ceremony for the 224th Academy Class on Friday, January 30, at the Scottish Rite Auditorium, 2850-19th Avenue at Sloat Blvd. at 6:00 P.M. There are 43 recruits graduating from the class that began June 23, 2008.

Eight of the graduates are bilingual, speaking Russian, Spanish, Portuguese, Vietnamese, Cantonese and Mandarin.

The 224th Class has completed 31 weeks of Academy training. Following the graduation, the newly sworn officers will begin a 17-week field-training program at the Department's district stations.
