San Francisco Police Arrest Suspect in Van Ness Ave Corridor Commercial Burglary Series
San Francisco police have arrested the suspect in a series of three commercial burglaries in the Van Ness Avenue corridor over a two-day period. Taken into custody on July 14 was Charles Lindley, 52, of San Francisco.
Lindley is the suspect in a burglary that occurred on July 10, just before 4:00 A.M. on the 1600 block of Van Ness. The suspect forced entry to the building and went to the third floor business, taking electronic items and cash.
The following day, July 11, at approximately 2:45 A.M., the suspect broke into a building on the 2000 block of Van Ness. Once inside, the suspect burglarized four separate businesses by prying open the doors. The suspect left the building in possession of electronic equipment.
Later that morning, at approximately 3:30 A.M., the suspect broke into a third commercial building, this one located on Daniel Burnham Court at Van Ness. Inside, the suspect burglarized three businesses, again stealing electronic devices.
There was surveillance video at all the locations. Police from Northern Station obtained and reviewed all of the tapes and determined that the crimes were committed by the same suspect, based on the suspect's features and clothing. In addition, a crowbar was used in all of the break-ins.
On July 14, shortly before 3:00 A.M., officers on patrol from Northern Station saw an individual matching the description of the suspect just off Van Ness and detained him. After initially giving the officers a false name, he provided his real name, Charles Lindley. A computer check revealed that Lindley had nine felony burglary convictions and was on parole.
Police conducted a parole search at his residence and found clothing that was seen in the video footage, as well as a bag containing other evidence.
Lindley was charged with seven counts of commercial burglary, possession of burglary tools, and delaying arrest. He remains in custody.
