Subject:

San Francisco Police Arrest MUNI Sexual Battery Suspect

San Francisco police, in coordination with the San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency (SFMTA), arrested the suspect in a sexual battery incident aboard the SFMTA's Municipal Railway (Muni) N Judah line. On July 14, San Francisco police took into custody a 16-year-old juvenile. Through witness descriptions, a Sex Offender Unit inspector was able to locate the suspect standing on an N line bus shelter at Duboce Avenue and Noe Street. The suspect remains in custody.

The suspect is believed to have committed sexual battery on other customers riding the N line. The successful joint investigation between the SFPD's Sex Offender Unit and the Muni Response Team (MRT), a unit consisting of SFPD officers dedicated to investigating and preventing crime on Muni, was aided by strong community input and media outreach.

A lot of great legwork went into this case, said Deputy Chief Antonio Parra, SFMTA Director of Security and Enforcement. Our inspectors in both the Sexual Offender and MRT units coordinated closely, and they will follow up with our partners in the District Attorney's Office so that this case can be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.

Anyone who has been the victim of this or other incidents should contact the police as soon as possible.
